Congratulations to Mark Steffka for Receiving the 2014 IEEE Region Four (R4) Jack Sherman Outstanding Member Award

Mark Steffka is the recipient of the IEEE Region Four (R4) Jack Sherman Outstanding Member Award.  The award will be presented during the awards ceremony of the IEEE-USA Meeting in Rhode Island on May 16, 2014.

Biographical Statement

Mark Steffka received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1981, and a M.S. from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1987.  He has almost 30 years of experience in the design and development of military, aerospace, and automotive electronics systems.  He is currently with General Motors’ Powertrain Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Group.  He is a lecturer at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and adjunct professor at the University of Detroit-Mercy.  He regularly teaches courses on EMC, antennas, and electronic communication systems at both universities.

Mark is the author and/or co-author of publications on EMC and Radio Frequency Interference (RFI).  A paper presented at the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Congress on “Engine Component Effects of Spark-Ignition Caused Radio Frequency Engineering (RFI)” was “Judged by SAE to be among the most outstanding SAE technical papers of 2007”.  He is an IEEE member and professional activities include serving as a technical session chair for SAE and IEEE conferences; Technical Program Co-Chair for the 2008 IEEE International Symposium on EMC; and has been an instructor in the symposium’s “Global EMC University”.  Mark has been an invited speaker at IEEE and SAE conferences held in the United States and international locations.  He is a member of the ARRL EMC Committee, and holds the amateur radio call sign WW8MS.

Biographical Statement

Congratulations to Scott Lytle for Receiving the IEEE 2015 Sustained Service to the EMC Society Award

Jim Woodyard, EMC Chapter VIII Awards Director, presenting to Scott Lytle, on behalf of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society, the 2015 Sustained Service to the EMC Society Award. The award was presented at the October 7th IEEE SEM EMC Chapter VIII meeting. The award was announced in August at the EMC 2015 Symposium held in Dresden. The award citation reads: For service since 2000, successfully leading the Southeastern Michigan EMC Chapter to become the most successful Chapter in the Section and also spearheading each year’s very successful “EMC Fest.” Scott is the current chair of the chapter and has served continuously as chair for the past 15 years.

Congratulations to James Muccioli for Receiving the IEEE Region 4 Outstanding Professional Award.

James Muccioli received the 2012 IEEE Region 4 Outstanding Professional Award for the development of innovative EMC testing methods used widely in EMC testing.  He has also contributed to the wider technical community through teaching and committee service.  The award was presented on April 18, 2013 at the IEEE Southeastern Michigan Spring 2013 Conference.

Biographical Statement

James Muccioli received the B.S.E.E. Degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn; the M.S.E.E. from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor; and is an IEEE Fellow.  He held a number of technical positions with Chrysler Corporation; was Chief Technology Officer at X2Y Attenuators, LLC; and is currently a consultant at Jastech EMC Consulting, LLC.  He has been active in the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) branch of Electrical Engineering; participated in the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE); been involved in the development of international EMC standards; participated in numerous symposia; and taught short courses in EMC technology.  While at Chrysler Corporation he was a Senior Engineering Specialist and responsible for the development of both the EMC test capability and the current International SAE Automotive EMC Standards.

Procedures for posting awards etc. on the EMC web site to be managed by the EMC Chapter Awards Chair

Following an EMC Chapter meeting, post the speaker’s photo with a caption on the home page.  Move the speaker’s photo and caption for the preceding meeting to the awards page.  Maintain the speaker photos and captions on the awards page for one year, thereafter move them to the award archive page.

Photos and captions of EMC Awardees are to be posted and maintained on the home page for about one year.  Thereafter they are to be moved to the award page for one year and then moved to the archive page.

A list of the fiscal year awardees is to be sent to Janice O’Niel once a year with the total amount of total donations.
