Requirements:
Provide test expertise in the Electro-Magnetic Compliance (EMC) area to various
product development groups. Primary focus will be on consumer audio/video,
professional audio products and noise cancellation headsets.
Job will primarily be focused on
conducting extensive EMC testing at multiple stages during product development
to ensure product compliance with EMC standards. Set up, measure, evaluate, and
document test results for a wide variety of products during validation testing.
Participate in root-cause analysis of EMC failures found during development
testing, and provide test reports and communications that help generate
corrective actions. Work with EMC and design engineers on troubleshooting
efforts that arise. Provide regular project status updates to project teams.
Continuously look for ways to improve existing test methods and lab processes,
as well as devise new test methods, and develop written procedures where needed.
Skills
Experience with electronic measurement and reporting, troubleshooting to the
component level, and basic electronic theory is mandatory. Excellent verbal and
written communication skills, and the ability to work independently are also
required, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
applications. Experience constructing prototype circuits, and familiarity with
any facet of EMC or RF measurements is a
plus.
Education:
ASEE, 4-6 years' directly related experience in an analog circuit development
environment.

The role: EMC Design Engineer
As an EMC Engineer in Platforms Engineering, you will play a key role in the
development of one of the world's most impressive computing infrastructures!
Your objective will be to collaborate closely with our Hardware Design Teams to
develop, test and qualify products to be compliant with the relevant worldwide
EMC standards and regulatory requirements. This will involve engaging with
various disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, Power etc) as early as
possible in the R&D cycle to ensure compliance by design rather than retrofit at
a later time. In addition you will be required to ensure all formal product
certification documentation and labeling is in place for all deployment
jurisdictions.

Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in EE, or equivalent. M.S. or PhD in EMC or related
discipline desirable.
* A minimum of 8 years hands-on EMC Design experience preferably with
information Technology Equipment. Strong technical background and analytical
knowledge of EMC and high speed design principles coupled with familiarity with
a variety of software modeling tools.
* Good general understanding of hardware design constraints and tradeoffs
and an ability to find cost effective work-arounds where feasible. Ability to
simultaneously investigate multiple avenues to solve problems.
* Expert knowledge of international standards and procedures related to
obtaining worldwide product certifications (e.g. FCC, CISPR, ICES, VCCI, etc.).
* Familiarity with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes,
LISN's, network analyzers, current probes, etc.
* Excellent understanding of product delivery lifecycles in a dynamic fast
paced environment.
* Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Lead Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Engineer.
The incumbent serves as the Lead Electromagnetic Environmental Effects
(E3)Engineer at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC). This work involves oversight
of all Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility (EMI/EMC) issues
relating to the design, test, and verification of aerospace systems.
Major Duties
The incumbent serves as the single point of contact for EMI/EMC test and
verification activities for all Constellation hardware which falls under the
purview of NASA GRC. The work involves the development of EMI/EMC test
plans and methods for large, complex systems of space flight hardware, and
analysis using computational techniques and electromagnetic modeling software
and applications. The incumbent provides high level technical direction
to engineers and technicians involved in test planning and execution, and
advice and guidance to those responsible for the design of avionics and
astrionics systems. The incumbent also serves as manager of the GRC EMI/EMC
Test Laboratory.
The incumbent has extensive experience in interpreting and applying relevant standards such as MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464, and has participated on committees responsible for establishing requirements, influencing policy, and coordinating activities within the EMI/EMC community. The incumbent also serves as an expert authority and provides oversight, consultation, recommendations, and coordination relating to EMI/EMC design, test, and verification, grounding and bonding techniques, electrostatic charge control, and the effects of lightning.
The position requires the ability to monitor contractors doing similar work to ensure the quality of contract deliverables. The incumbent must also have outstanding oral and written communication skills and be able to clearly communicate complex technical material to others at various levels.
Finally, the incumbent must be able to develop project plans including costs, schedules and work breakdown structures, and to coordinate projects utilizing resources from within GRC, in academia, at other NASA Centers and other Federal Agencies, and in the contractor community.
